Make Up Work Policy

Work is late if past your chemistry period on the day it is due.  Late work is 50% credit up to the unit test.  Work is not accepted after the unit test.  If you are out due to illness you have the number of days you were out starting with the day you return.  If you are out for an extended period of time (several days), please make an appointment to see me so that we can agree on how you will get back on schedule.

Extra Credit

Extra Credits assignments in this class are RARE!  This is done so that students focus their studies on the materials and content specified by the State of California.  There may be a Blood Drive opportunity for a small amount of extra credit.

Mr. Dacanay's Home Page

Greetings!

I teach Chemistry and other general science classes such as Plant Science and 9th grade science.

In the 2013-2014 school year, I am teaching CP and General Chemistry.

All assignments and class details can be accessed here and in class.  I share grades with parents and students through the SVUSD Aeries system.  Grades are updated on an almost daily basis.  This is done so that there are no surprises!!  Questions about a grade or about how to improve a grade?  See me after school or drop me an email.

Details about Login usernames and passwords will be forthcoming.  Thanks for your patience as we transition to a better system!!

Message to My Students

I am always available to help.  I am in my classroom on most days after school and at lunch on a first come first served basis.  Please come with specific questions.  I usually reserve before school for preparing for the day.  However, I will accept individual appointments if you ask in advance, so that I can plan.

Good Advice

Find what works best for you and do it a lot!

What's Really Important

Be sure it is clear to everyone, even people who don't know you,  that you are trying your best.

Problems with Aeries Website?

If you have noticed that my class is no longer on the Gradebook Summary when you log into Aeries, I am  aware of the problem and have reported it to SVHS administration.  We do not know why this has occured and I am very sorry for the inconvenience.

As of 10/31 we believe we have fixed the problem.  If you are experiencing any further problems, please let me know ASAP.

However, the problem is EASILY dealt with in either of the two following ways

  1. Click on the title of that first table "Gradebook Summary".  This should give you a new summary and my class is in this table.  By clicking on my name you can access all of your personal grades in the class.
  2. Click on the name of any other teacher in the Gradebook Summary.  This will take you to their gradebook.  In the upper left you will notice a pull down menu.  By clicking on this, you can then select my name, which will then take you to your gradebook detail for my class.

"Never give in--
never, never, never, never,
in nothing great or small,
large or petty, never give in
except to convictions of honour
and good sense. Never yield to force;
never yield to the apparently
overwhelming might of the enemy."
